"... what about the working poor?"
Wednesday morning. Gorgeous. Crisp. Sunny Day. The first day of GOTV and I was out knocking on doors, once again. I met a lady on the canvass in a sweet neighborhood. No obvious abandoned buildings. Her house, modest, well kept and lived in, years of family life on the bookshelves and on the walls.
Voting for Barack. Absolutely. Early Voting? I can’t remember.
What I do remember is her predicament. She had to leave her job to take care of a member of her family who was ill. Two years ago. She said they had to get a second mortgage, and now, because the bottom has fallen out of the housing market they can’t afford to pay their mortgage. They are in foreclosure.
Hard to believe.
“He keeps talking about helping the middle class,” she said. “What about the working poor?”
