it's your patriotic duty
On the phone talking to a man, asking him if he's decided who he is voting for.
"I'm voting the democratic ticket," he says.
I say thank you. I get the sense that he would prefer to be voting for someone else at the top of that ticket. I appreciate that he is getting over any reservations he may have about this candidate.
I ask him if he would be able to go down and vote early. I tell him that we believe that this is the way we are going to win Ohio. The more people who vote early, the more people who will be able to vote on Election Day.
He goes off on me. Frankly he says, I don't approve of the early vote. I don't like. it. I'm going down to vote at the polls the way I normally do. And if you can't go down and stand in line and vote .. It's one day in four years ... well it's your patriotic duty.
He doesn't understand that the lines are different in different neighborhoods. Fifteen minutes to vote in a white suburban community. Eight hours in an inner city black one. Patriotic duty indeed.
